Sister Almer Alice, what you wrote in this article is marvelous. You nailed it and I love it reading it. Im still remembered my childhood when I fall into this category you wrote. You can say I been there and I used to be that person and used to be of that Spirit. I used to have lots of short temper and a lot of anger towards my family. I believe it was the time after my parents had divorce and our family was going through rough times. Anyway, about that anger of mine was no other but hatred. That Spirit of pride and ego combined with anger and hate consumed me completely and made me into something else. There was no love for my brothers, sisters and family at all and no mercy for my actions also. Of course my big brother puts me down to the floor every time I loose control of myself, but that Spirit of mine just kept increasing into more hate and more anger in my heart. Everything that comes out of my tongues is pure evil and deceitful. My anger tongue was very direct and launching witchcraft upon people like for an example manipulation and slander words. If they don't do what I say, I nailed them down to the floor without mercy. That was how crazy I was. And yes Alice, my tongue was full of lies and deception. Nothing comes good from my tongue and the truth only comes comes out when I get vicious get annoyed with my anger of not having my way. Looking back from now, I don't miss who I were back then. If this is what the son of Satan is, well I used to be one.
When I came to Christ, everything changed. I was able to crucified my flesh along with Satan Spirit I had and repented and confess. Hallelujah and Amen.
Thank you for sharing this. You're not alone. I find many young people of our generations are once demonized by the same spirit of anger, which led to a series of sins.
One verse that stands out to me about a deceitful tongue is Proverbs 21:5-6,
“The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty. The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor and a snare of death.”
I find that lying is a direct result of not having the fruit of the spirit, patience. Even more, the lack of self control! I am by no means perfect and guilty of this myself.
It's unlikely to "speak the truth, all the truth, and only the truth, nothing but the truth" all the time. But that should not disarm us from watching out for the demonic spirit of deceit. It's a whole new dimension.
Well written Alice. Seems like you are under fire a lot, but God is using such birth pains to bring forth truth. Deuteronomy 32:39 is intensely present in this article, and what do you have written is going to be crucial to the shrewd sifting of wheat and chaff God is calling you to do in the near future.
This proverb came to mind when reading your article: "the wicked go astray from birth."
It pairs with psalm 36:1 and 25:3b.
There is ultimately no reconciliation whatsoever between deceivers and Truth lovers (Prov 29:27). One of the hardest things to learn in life is that a pig will always trample a pearl, but will pretend to be a pearl before trampoline a pig, a "gold ring in a pig's snout."
What do you think the seven abominations in the deceiver's heart represent in Proverbs 26?
Psalm 58:3 Wow, I didn't even quote that verse. Powerful. Many Christians will call you "judgmental" if you don't mention it's in the scripture.
Before my grandma was saved, she said liars are born, not made. They have forked tongues. No wonder she received Jesus so easily. Very similar to my own conversion—because we already held biblical beliefs without ever reading the Bible.
I'm doin' a little happy dance reading your excellent post, sista.
Wisdom. Good stuff. Keep going.
Another dimension to this is "...wise as serpents and innocent as doves." (Matt 10:16)
After much contemplation, I now take the gist of Jesus' words there to be something like this:
Assume (as the serpent cynically does) that everyone is a liar, at least part of the time. It's actually true of nonbelievers, b/c, in Adam, we were all born liars. Prior to conversion, everyone follows the lead of the prince of the power of the air (Ephesians 2)... who is the original liar, "the father of lies" (John 8:44).
But then, with your "wise" hat on, Christian (i.e., don't be naive; don't be surprised when fiery trials of all kinds of worldly deceptive garbage get dumped on you; don't be duped) also remember that you've been freed from having to lie; remember to be innocent. Don't lie. Don't be like them. Don't follow their mob-rule lead of deception (in small ways and large ones).
Instead, follow the holy-innocent lead of He Who Is Truth. Because, dear Christian, you now wear His armor of light, walking as sons (inheritors) of His light.
