A reason why I personally believe women try to be very manipulative (and my reason for why modern radical "femininity" exists) is because of the curse that women received due to the Fall.

Genesis 3:16:

"To the woman he said,

“I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing;

in pain you shall bring forth children.

Your desire shall be contrary to your husband,

but he shall rule over you.”"

Wonderful article, Alice!

Yes I that makes a lot of sense. It's like a sinful nature in women.

Love your writing and thank you for sharing. It truly does encourage me that there are still a woman who thinks and tries to live according to His teaching sincerely.

It is the curse to women given by God that she will 'desire' her Husband's seat. That is flowing across the human history into each family all the generation. We cannot really change or stop that curse by ourselves but only through the holy ghost in Christ, the ultimate cure for all the slavery.

Maybe you already mentioned this, and you certainly imply it, but we humans must accept the perplexing fact that God made men and women different-but seems not to expect either of us to change our nature, except to try to kill the sinful part of it. To some degree, a woman shouldn't be surprised to see that her man thinks differently. And, I guess, shouldn't try to change him either, maybe won't understand him. It may take God's help to accept that that's OK.

I have heard many sermons and read books written about Martha vs Mary. I see it different than you. I THINK Jesus did see her heart and desire to be a good hostess and make sure every guests was comfortable and needs met. We need Martha’s -balanced and with pure hearts to serve. Where would we be without Martha who does the housework and cooking. I’m not arguing the point at all that often the hostess may be doing it to satisfy self worth, attention, or feeling as if she can control the world and everyone’s happiness in it. I don’t really “care” about cooking and cleaning, but I need visual order for peace. My sister is a busy bee, yet she also has a LOT of people to care for. Her mornings are spent first with the Lord. So-as I said. Balance. Mary has household responsibilities too…yet…oh when Jesus was in the room…she sat at his feet. Martha felt the responsibility as the hostess. We must walk carefully to not miss Jesus “in the room”.

I agree with is perspective as well and this is the most apparent one. But I don't believe Jesus honored Martha more than Mary otherwise He wouldn't have said "you are troubled by so many things".

The first time I read that part, I teamed Mary, because I saw her as a caring, welcoming host, a mother figure. Now as I grew deeper in the faith walk, I learned to see things from God's perspective. I didn't understand why God chose Jacob over Esau. I didn't understand why the Prodigal Son is more celebrated than his good older brother. Although this might hurt many Martha's feeling, I know that Jesus wants us to be Mary. The prodigal son's brother has a similar Orphan Spirit as Martha's. They are often indignant about those who seem effortlessly loved by God, not knowing that God loves us without us doing anything for Him.

The difference comes with properly responding to every situation from the heart. Responsibility kills that responsiveness, because it imposes external expectations that actually veil our eyes to what is important, and what God is calling us to at the moment.

One of the best interpretations for this passage is Christ's response to his disciples at the Samaritan well, when they offer him bread, and he refuses it, because he is so intent on doing the work at hand.

We know this intuitively, because we have all been engrossed in work such that we forget to eat, sometimes to drink enough water.

The point is to let God redirect us to the tasks he wants us to do, to draw near to listen, instead of drawing near to offer foolish sacrifice (Eccl 5:1)

You are right that the dividing line isn't work itself. The dividing line is the difference between responsibility and responsiveness. What you've written shows you understand the importance of the latter as the proper motivation for work. The wife of noble character is not only capable, but works eagerly for the joy of the work and those she serves. She does not work from a sense of responsibility, but of responsiveness.

I love your choice of "well ordered." That is the exact Hebrew word used in describing Rahab's flax stalks in Jos 2, and Wisdom's setting out the table in Prov 9:2.

I think you and Alice actually agree at a deeper level, but aren't making the proper distinctions with your words. Articulately describing something is very difficult, and needs a lot of drawing out (Prov 20:5)

The great difference between them is the divide between responsibility and responsiveness.

The priest and levite were responsible. The Good Samaritan was responsive.

King Saul was responsible, always worried about the expectations of others. King David was responsive, operating like that wind which blows where it wishes, and listens to the Spirit's counsel.

Cain was always focused on responsibility, on the restless striving to make a name for himself. He hated Abel, who lived out of responsive thankfulness. Remember that Jacob lost sleep caring for his does and ewes, and I can guarantee that Abel did the same. It wasn't a matter of whether work was hard or not, but whether that work was a response to need, and to God's ordering of his steps.

Look carefully, and you will see that the woman of Proverbs 31 is beautifully and ardently responsive. She is no less than Rahab, who responded to God's work and God's people with amazing wisdom. She is the worker in flax and scarlet. Kindness was literally on her tongue (Jos 2:12, Prov 31:26). By the world's standards, she was utterly irresponsible in playing the traitor and walking away from Jericho. She did the exact opposite of Lot's wife. And she is the Wonder of Solomon, Mary, James, Matthew, Jesus, and the author of Hebrews.

Thank you Alice for taking the time to reply to me. A day is coming when you won't be able to reply personally due to increased responsibilities that are about to happen as your channels grow supernaturaly in rapid succession. Quick question: do you see the value of sharing a condensed YT video version of your personal testimony and baptism in the holy spirit as evidenced by your speaking in tongues. I'm sure this would be of great interest to many as well as helping us all to connect with you.
