Why Jesus Had to Die—No, It Has Nothing to Do with "Quenching the Wrath of God"
True love starts from the mind and stays in the heart, and so does the love of God. To grasp a sense of God's love, you must renew your mind to understand it first, before it burns in your heart.
The moment this truth fell upon me, rivers of fire burned through my heart, and I finally understood what Jesus said to His disciples before He went to the cross:
“I have so many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.”
This tunnel vision—no, not even—of God's love has already overwhelmed me.
⛪️Are you a Christian? Good.
🪐Are you an unbeliever? Awesome.
🤷🏻♀️Are you a Christian who is often offended by unbelievers’ challenging though legit questions? Then this post is mostly for you.
If you can’t talk with unbelievers about Jesus, it’s either a lack of love or a lack of faith. Perhaps you don’t know the answers either, and hearing your doubts spoken out loud by an unbeliever is tormenting.
Two main reasons we struggle with faith:
Never truly repented (lack of intimacy—don’t love God—the heart is sick)
Never truly knew God (lack of understanding—don’t fear God—the mind is carnal)
🔥Today, we focus on the second by learning about God’s nature and love.
🌅If this post answers a heavy load of your questions about Christianity, all glory to God; If not, blame it on me.
☕️Grab a coffee. Get comfortable. Be ready to do brainwork.
We’re taking off now. 🛫

Satan’s crooked pleasure and real motive
Why Jesus had to die—no, it’s not to save us from “the wrath of God”
Jesus’s victory over Satan—First kill, Double kill, and Triple kill
👏🏼Tribute to Apostle Tomi Arayomi, who gave one of the best sermons I’ve ever listened to, “The Finisher’s Grace,” which inspired me to write this post.
🥢Two basics about God that explain your Whys
God speaks things into existence.
God is faithful—He can’t lie and won’t cancel what He spoke.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1
🌬️No.1 God speaks things into existence
This explains why we must read the Bible, and why Christians are so obsessed with the Word of God.
Because He spoke, and it has already been done.
🌈No.2 God is faithful—He can’t lie and won’t cancel what He spoke
From this arise common questions unbelievers ask:
Why is the world still full of pain if Jesus is the Savior? What exactly did He save us from?
Why can’t God simply retract His law about sin so Jesus wouldn’t have had to die?
Why doesn’t God just bring everything to an end now?
Why did God allow Satan to be in Eden and to continue causing evil to this day?
The answer to all these questions, and similar ones, is:
God can’t take back His word. God is His word.
That’s it.
The truth is always simple and counterintuitive.
Now let me explain.
🤦🏻♂️God’s dilemma
God gave us free will out of love, which leads to a dilemma He must deal with:
He can’t cancel His word just because of the stupidity conducted by our free will, so He has to be creative in the way to fulfill His word.
Two examples:
🍯No.1 The Promise Land
For example, He promised the Israelites the land of milk and honey, but due to their disobedience, He had to fulfill His promise in a different generation. In doing so, He kept His word and honored Himself—now people know that God is faithful and to be feared; His promise is not a license for sin.
✨No.2 Covenant with Abraham
God made a covenant with Abraham's descendants, but He did not make a covenant with a specific generation. God allowed certain generations to go through oppression and exile.
💫God twists His Word❓
Yes, He does—but it’s a twist only according to our carnal minds.
The ultimate "twist" of God’s word was fulfilled by Jesus.
Once you grasp this, you'll understand why the Jews, even to this day, refuse to believe that Jesus is the Messiah. Based on human knowledge, Abraham’s descendants should mean biological descendants.
But the covenant has been renewed through faith in Christ—those who believe in Jesus are Abraham’s spiritual descendants.
God actually fulfilled His promise to Abraham precisely through Jesus:
“And I will bless those who bless you,
And the one who curses you I will curse.
And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.”
Genesis 12:1-3
Now, there’s an even greater “twist” that announced Satan’s utter failure.
🐍Satan’s crooked pleasure and real motive
Beware that you aren’t deceived—
Satan had already been defeated when Jesus died on the cross.
Satan is NOT really at war with the Kingdom of God. He has already failed. All his attacks against believers these days boil down to one motive:
To obscure Jesus’s victory that was settled 2000 years ago from people’s recognition.
Satan, taking advantage of God’s faithfulness, knows that humans must die due to our sin, which is the law God Himself established from the beginning of creation.
God cannot take His word back—so what would you do, if you were Satan, to afflict God Whom you hate?
🕸️Satan’s crooked pleasure
—is to tempt men to sin and then compel God to sentence them to death.
If you think Satan is after your soul, you are too self-important. Don’t take the enemy’s attacks personally. He doesn’t care about your soul.
Satan’s ultimate goal is God. What he truly hates and is obsessed with is God.
He knows God loves us to death (literally), and there’s nothing in his crooked mind that can hurt God more than sentencing His own children to death.
😳
Take a deep breath and sit on that for a second before you can digest more.
👁️Satan’s real motive
Satan was thrown out of Heaven due to his sin. Holding grudges, he wants to see if God will still stand by His law when it comes to His beloved children. By tempting men to sin, Satan believed that he has cornered God into a dilemma He couldn’t get out of:
If God absolved men, then He would become a liar just like Satan is. God would cease to be God.
If God killed men for their sin, then He would no longer be the God of love but a hypocrite.
🪝Satan’s motive is exposed in his attack against believers
That’s why, now that you have a grounded understanding, the battle belongs to God, as does the victory and the glory.
Once you understand that, you can discern the enemy much easier in each attack.
You will quickly realize, amidst swarms of doubt and fear, that the enemy is leading you down one path—doubting God.
✝Why Jesus had to die—no, it’s not to “quench the wrath of God”
Romans 5:9 is not the answer ❌
I hate this saying—Jesus died to quench the wrath of God against our sins—it doesn’t do God justice.
I know it originates from scripture—Romans 5:9, where Paul says we shall be saved from ‘the wrath of God’ through Him.
Unfortunately, Romans 5:9, which explains a result of Jesus’s death, does not answer why Jesus had to die.
The result (of Jesus's death) vs. the reason (for Jesus’s death)—these are totally different in logic.
Plus, if that’s the answer, then God is not a good, loving Father at all.
So what is the answer❓
So what can God do—if He can’t take back His law nor will He kill His own children?
How could He free His children from His law?—in other words, how could He free Himself from His law?
There’s only one way:
God must die.
👑The Price of Kingship
God rules His kingdom, and a kingdom does not run in the way of democracy.
Every word of the king is law, and his law is not abolished until he dies.
That’s the promise behind “you have my words,” at least in ancient times.
This is why Jesus Christ, the Son of God and God Himself, must die. On that cross, through His own death, God accomplished two things:
The Law is honored—Jesus died for the sins of humanity.
The Law is abolished—Jesus, the King who set that law, died.
The new Law and new Covenant are made through His resurrection:
Whoever believes in Him shall not die but have eternal life. That is why, through faith, we’re saved, and it is the grace of God, freely given.
🌊The vastness of the love of God
Only by crucifying Himself—if only there was another way, God would not have chosen such a brutal remedy—can God honor His law, keep His word, and also His children’s lives.
Now, at this point, I believe you have grasped a deeper understanding of the love of God.
The love of God mocked Satan’s cleverness. God loves so much that He would sacrifice Himself to keep His faithfulness and His children together.
🔱Jesus’s victory over Satan—First kill, Double kill, and Triple kill
First Kill: The Law is abolished, yet God keeps His Word.
Double Kill: The Law is honored, yet God keeps His children.
Now, Triple Kill—God is a Trinity.
🗡️Triple Kill:
The Son died, but the Father is able to resurrect Him. The Son returned to the Father, but the Holy Spirit is able to come.
How impeccable.
How utter is Satan’s failure and how ridiculous is his rebellion.
That’s it for today.
👏🏼Congratulations on finishing this article. Let’s give our Heavenly Father a prostrating ovation.
We love you DAD!!🎇
Epic
Thank you.! :0
It totally irks me when people take one small verse like Roman 5:9 and build a whole theology around it. Take the whole chapter Romans 5 and all the scriptures both OT and NT on this subject. Then it explain exactly what you have written Alice. God bless you my Sister in Christ. What powerful insight into exactly why Christ had to die.
God is all knowing and He still went ahead and created Lucifer.
God is all knowing and He still went ahead and create mankind (both male and female) even though Lucifer will device them and He had to die for them.
God is not caught flat footed or by surprise. He is the great I AM!!
